A Storage Area Network (SAN) is a high-speed network shared between storage devices and host computing systems. SAN is an essential building block of virtual computing environments, such as VMware. A SAN makes processes such as backup/recovery, archiving, storage virtualization, clustering etc, easier to implement and much more efficient than legacy environments such as Direct Attached Storage (DAS).
PERFORMANCE utilizes SAN building blocks from partners CISCO, DELL, IBM, HP, Brocade, Emulex, Quantum to architect and deliver comprehensive storage solutions that are able to grow with customers changing needs.
Storage virtualization in a SAN environment, implemented via software applications (Symantec/Veritas, Falconstor etc) or via dedicated SAN appliances, results in the amalgamation of multiple and heteregeneous network storage devices into what appears to be a single storage unit with enterprise-storage characteristics.
